You've probably heard the saying, "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
That's what's happening to Jared Polis right before our eyes, and it sure is sweet.
Obviously, he was no hero of ours and surely not one to you either.
But for years, Polis wasn't just any Democrat politician. He was one of the biggest bankrollers of Colorado's progressive movement, pouring millions of dollars into the activists and organizations that transformed our state.
He helped create the political machine that dominates Colorado today.
Now his own creation has turned on him.
An 89.8% majority of the Colorado Democratic Party just voted to censure him.
Progressive activists are attacking him. The very movement he spent years building has decided he isn't progressive enough anymore.
It's a fitting end.
When Polis leaves office in a few months and fades into political irrelevance, we will gladly wave him goodbye, probably with our middle finger.
But...
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
One thing Polis got right was signing the "Daylight Saving Time Year Round" bill into law in June 2022.
In order for this law to take effect, two conditions must be met:
- Congress passes federal legislation allowing states to adopt permanent daylight saving time.
- At least four Mountain Time Zone states adopt permanent daylight saving time as well.
Step 1 is well within our reach after the House passed the necessary legislation this week.
This week, an action alert from American Restoration Action is making the rounds online to urge U.S. senators to pass this bill.
Please take just a minute to contact Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper and encourage them to support this common-sense reform.
Colorado is ready. Now Congress needs to act.
The U.S. Senate has had a self-inflicted rough year. This should be an easy, quick victory for them.
If enough Americans speak up, this is one issue where Washington can still find common ground.
