On Sunday evening, we will return to our standard format of the Freedom Action Report discussing bills in the Colorado Legislature.

But today, there is something far too important happening in Washington to overlook:

The SAVE America Act passed in the U.S. House today, with Colorado's four Republican representatives voting “YES” and the four Democrats voting “NO” on the measure.

This is by far the closest we have gotten to enhancing the security of our elections.

That is why all eyes are now on Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota.

He holds the power to bring the SAVE America Act to the Senate floor for a vote, where it appears it could pass on a 50-50 vote with Vice President JD Vance serving as the tie-breaker. (Pennsylvania Democrat John Fetterman says he is a “YES” vote.)

Senator Thune is under enormous pressure right now, and we believe all Coloradans should pile on and deluge his office with calls and messages.

Many Americans are calling on Senator Thune to “nuke the filibuster” to pass this bill.

That is one option, which would require a simple majority vote to send the bill to the President’s desk.

A foreseeable downside of using this tactic is that it almost certainly will abused by Democrats next time they control the Senate.

The other option is what's called the "talking filibuster", which is exactly the type of filibuster you've familiar with where Senators must physically hold the floor and speak to prevent a vote from happening.

The primary reason we don't see the talking filibuster much any more is that Senators in both parties use the likelihood of not having 60 votes as justification to not bring a bill up for a vote.

It's lazy, but it's also how the swamp protects itself, keeping bills off the floor when Senators don't want to be forced to take a public position on them.

In this instance, Senator Thune should be salivating at the opportunity to make Democrats stand on the Senate Floor for days on end trying to explain to the American people why they don't support proof of US citizenship as a requirement to vote in federal elections.

This is an opportunity for We the People to flex the true strength of the grassroots and force Congress to work for us.

Securing our elections was a keystone of the voters’ mandate on election night in 2024.

So please take a moment to contact Senator John Thune’s office today.

Any representative who fails to heed the will of the people on such a crucial issue will almost certainly face retribution at the polls.
